About Julie Ann
Julie Ann has been painting since she was a young girl. At an early age, she would spend hours examining the designs and patterns in the Persian rugs in her family home. Finding little mistakes in the handmade rugs was a thrill.
These early experiences gestated and then blossomed in her first mandala at age 17. Many of the Persian designs showed up in that painting and she made sure to include little “mistakes” in order to keep it real like the handmade rugs. She painted mostly mandalas for many years, and studied sacred geometry and the geometry of plants and nature.
Growing up with a veterinarian as a father meant that she was always surrounded by animals. Julie Ann’s love for animals can be seen in her pet portraits where she captures their heart and spirit in the paintings. Julie Ann lives in Berkeley, CA with her husband Lincoln and her cat, Ruby.
